From an email thread complaining about stores measuring the unit of price-per-unit in grams, ounces, and units for different items, making it harder to compare prices:
Fun fact: If someone
ever asks you that silly “What weighs more, a pound of feathers or a
pound of gold?” question, the answer is arguably a pound of feathers.
Feathers are weighed with an Avoirdupois pound,
which is heavier than a Troy pound (troy pounds are used for gold,
silver, and gems I believe).
Funner fact: If they
ask “What weighs more, an ounce of feathers or an ounce of gold?” the
answer is an ounce of gold, since there’s only 12 ounces in a troy pound
(as opposed to 16 oz. in an avoirdupois pound)
I’m a real hit at parties.
I want to meet this person and shake their hand.
